Joining the locals at Queenstown - Day 7

Today the Cochranes were golfed out and swapped walking shoes for golf sticks, which left Shugzee, John and Shaz who decided to go and play with the locals at Queenstown. Another glorious day, really hot but beautiful weather, no wind. The Ladies comp was off their short course, which was interesting, neither of the girls had played it before. All golfers were very good - John had to play stroke and played a 4 ball, stroke in 3 hours (he was exhausted)! Shaz and Cathy played with new friends Heather and Barbara and had great rounds. Best round of the day went to Shaz on 39 points (even par) and comp of the day was BB Multiplyer which was won by Shugzee and Shaz, with a close second for Shugzee and John.

When John found out he was playing stroke - he called a "Time Out" on the Ryder Cup - which was declared a draw before play.

Cockers was very generous in not playing today to allow Shaz to win the tightly contested Champion of Champions.

Cathy with her recent run of form nearly played her way out of the Chumpion of Chumpions spot, but managed to hang onto it.   After all it was worth money....

Another glorious day at Millbrook - Day 6

An early start as we had lunch at Amisfield Winery, it was a cool start but by hole 2 we were peeling off the layers one by one and by hole 5 it was hot, hot , hot! It was an important round for the Ryder Cup with only one point in it. No one wanted to choose the team (just in case) so we threw balls in the air to choose the team and it was Shaz and Cockers. To be honest the boys did so well with John having a whopping 38 points and Ross 2nd on 34 points - it wouldnt have mattered what the team was! The Ryder Cup is currently tied.

The Competition for the day was Mystery Partner, Multiplyer Skins - John drew Shaz as a partner, Ross & Cathy and Cockers and Ross. John and Shaz managed to get 12 out of the 18 skins, thanks to John's good shooting. With the other teams getting 3 skins each.

Tomorrow we are a smaller group with John, Shaz and Shugzee playing at Queenstown. Where the Ryder Cup will be decided.

It just doesnt get any better @ Wanaka - Day 5

It was a day for adventure today - a new golf course for all of us and a new competition format - comp of the day was Par Bisque. We took the scenic drive to Wanaka, which with the weather predicted to top 27 was going to be a scorcher by Otago standards. We had clear blue skies, fanastic weather, great golf all on a beautiful golf course. It sounds like a sugary sweet Hallmark Channel write up, but seriously - every where you look there either towering mountains with varyin textures and shades, or aqua lakes with all kinds of alpine trees int he foreground. Just magic!

Winner of the day went to John (who left a shot in the bag) on +3, followed closely Cockers (boring!!) on +1 and in excellent company were the peanut gallery on -4!

Best score of the day went to Cockers on 35 points, closely followed by John who stumbled on the last hole - then a friendly tie for third place by the rest of us...

Ryder Cup is getting close - with the girls failing to follow the rules and nominate a team prior to teeing off - John picked the names out of a hat and very cleverly left Cockers out of the team. It was a convincing win for the boys.

Comp of the day was 4BBB, Shugzee and Cockers teaming up with Shaz swinging with the lads! Queenstown put on a perfect day, perfect conditions and some pretty good golf. After nine holes all teams were tied and the Ryder Cup was pretty close too. But a blistering back 9 by Team Shaz & John and Team Ross & Shaz gave us a clear first and second place for the daily comp.

Best score of the day went to Shaz on 38 points followed closely Cockers on 33.

The Ryder Cup team was Cockers and Shugzee, which made for a winning combination for the boys team.

Jitters at Jacks - Day 3

6/2/2018

With the wind chill it was a 4 deg Celsius start for us this morning at Jacks, the sun was shining but sadly there is a ruddy great mountain range in the way.  It was super chilly and the hand warmers were int he pockets and 6 layers made swimming a little tough.

The golf was good from all, todays format was skins - as you know it is all about getting the highest points on the hole after all of the halves.  Thankfully it was all done in the open otherwise there may have been a stewards enquiry!  Shaz parred the last getting 3 points which had 4 skins - this rocketed her total to 8 skins $40 Kaching.  Cochranes got their money back with 4 skins a piece and Thommo got 2 skins.  Poor Shugzee managed to get her three pointers on the holes when others did too.

Best score of the day goes to Cockers with 33 points, 2nd and 3rd was Shaz and John.

Carolyn, Sydney
Everything was so well organised, all we had to do was pitch up on the day and enjoy playing golf on the lovely courses.  Sharon also arranged different daily competitions within the group which added a different dimension of fun to the tour.  I can highly recommend Sharon and I'm looking forward to my next golfing trip with Fairways Travel.
